Question: Sometimes my character will rubber band (spring back) while I am
playing. Why is that?
Answer: Rubber banding happens when the game server and your Star Trek Online
client briefly become out of sync and your character will appear to skip back to
where you were in the world a few seconds ago. This can sometimes happen if the
server is under a heavy load or if the network latency between you and the game
server increases. You can diagnose the issue by doing the below steps:
Run a trace route:
If you see any hops over 180ms, this could be the cause of the rubber banding.
How to acquire, run and read the Nettest tool:
Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download the application and run it (Windows 7 and Vista users make sure to right click the icon and run as admin if you are having issues with the tool running.)
The Nettest tool checks that the ports required for patching and playing Star Trek Online are not blocked or filtered. Good values returned from the Nettest tool look like:
Column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate). If the values in these columns is less than what is expected you may have filtering or blocked ports either on your personal network or from your ISP.
Question: I am running Windows XP 64bit with a Realtek audio card, and I
have no sound. How can I fix this?
Answer: We have seen that the latest drivers from Realtek have corrected
most of these issues. Go to http://www.realtek.com.tw/
select the driver link at the top and download the proper drivers. To find out what
kind of Realtek audio card you have do the following:
How to create a dxdiag report:
Question: Is Star Trek Online compatible with SLI or Crossfire technology?
Answer: Yes. The Cryptic engine takes advantage of multi-GPU setups. In some
systems this will provide a significant performance increase, while other systems
may be limited by other non-GPU factors and not see a benefit from multi-GPU. If
at any time you experience major graphical issues with SLI or crossfire enabled
make sure to try disabling multi-GPU functionality in the Nvidia control panel/Catalyst
controller. Always ensure you are using the recommend drivers for Star Trek online
that are obtainable through Nvidia or ATI. These are the only supported driver distributers
for Cryptic products.
Question: I like to over clock my system. (GPU, CPU, and Memory)Will I run
into any issues playing Star Trek Online if I do this?
Answer: We do not support over clocked systems as they can produce unexpected
and un-reproducible issues. The only support we offer is factory over clocked GPU’s.
If you are experiencing odd performance or graphical glitches and your system is
over clocked, please revert your hardware back to its factory default settings.
